Dates & News:

ZimDog News, can be accessed from: www.vanerp.net.

GSD Council: Has been put back into operation with the same structure, more or less. Zimbabwe Kennel Club had ordered the two groups to change the constitution, this was done but again not accepted by the one club and so the constitution is practically back to its former self.

Condolences:

Border Collie Ranger had a brain haemorrhage and was paralysed on one side and had to be put to sleep while the Edward’s were in Australia. Amazing how long this dog lived as he was on constant medication and so had a good life up to the end.

Ob Champion, WT Champion Von Rannatal Ria IPO 1

[Xitus vom Kirschental / Serafina Catinka] born on 24 – 11 –1992 put to rest on: 18 – 01 – 2005. Twelve years and 2 months: What a lovely Shepherd this was, always so good natured and friendly to all sorts of dogs Gladys happen to train or look after in her home, Ceilidh was always accepting these other dogs or breeds.

Gladys put so much work in her and she worked so well in obedience and her working trials were so good too. Her Father was a working dog from the well-known vom Kirschental kennels in Germany and he was on loan for a year in Zimbabwe where he managed to get a ‘V’ grading in breed, CD in working trials and IPO 1. Ceilidh’s mother was an Obedience Champion and so she had it in her to do well with Gladys as a super trainer. A big gap and as Gladys said: I will miss my lovely Ceilidh.”

Joanna Fleming – Plumb Obedience Seminar:

The Seminar was well attended last year and many came, participated and sat watching the ones coming on the field at the Dobermann club. It is fascinating to see how dogs will work and get motivated by their food being offered in the left hand. On the right is Ayka going through her paces, while at the bottom some pictures how Bakhari was getting on with her obedience. Another seminar is planned for 25 June and some, might still be able to book for it. Contact me and I will pass your request on, but be quick as it is fills soon.

Stud dogs in Zimbabwe.
9 Tanu of Tararsans DOB 10-9-2002, AD SG [Sire Fero vom Masebau / Dam Jewel of Tarasans] Has not been used as he is a very young dog. Is being trained to get his SchHund qualification in the near future.

10 Zilletal Conan He was the winner in Bulawayo this last August under Colin Frankel. He has sired quite a lot of litters, all with good character and spirit.

Dog lets planes land safely at Schiphol

The dogs Roy and Glen make sure that planes can land safely at Schiphol Airport. The two Border Collies are herding the birds away from the start and landings strips. Therefore it has to be prevented that birds will get into the airplanes engines.

Animal Care and Accident and Medical Care sponsor the work of Roy and Glen for Dogs and Cats. According to those two sponsors is it already a success. The accident rate of planes coming into collision with birds has been reduced to a near 50%.

Dog with the Longest Ears

Has been entered into the Guinness book of records for the longest ears. 26-9-2003

The dog with the world's longest ears is Knightsfollie Ladiesman, a Bassett Hound whose ears measured 29.2 cm (11.5 in) on November 3, 2002. Better known as Mr. Jeffries, the record-breaking pooch lives with his owner, Phil Jeffries, in Southwick, West Sussex, UK, and his doleful, hang-dog expression has found him fame on various TV shows. And like all big stars, Mr. Jeffries has already disgraced himself by being sick in the back of a stretch limousine while traveling to a TV studio.

Mr. Jeffries' elephantine ears are so long that owner Phil has insured them for £30,000 ($48,500). "Famous film stars have certain parts of their bodies insured, like their bum or their legs, so it's a must for Mr. Jeffries," said proud owner Phil. "But the pampered pooch himself could pose the biggest danger to his lugs as he is constantly standing on them, tripping over them and dangling them in his dog food!"

Mr. Jeffries, whose famous father Biggles featured in advertisements for Hush Puppies shoes, celebrated his record-breaking achievement with a new harness and a slap-up meal of gourmet dog food.
