* Pitbull-owners Rotterdam prosecuted

A judge in Rotterdam has prosecuted and fined 14 owners of pittbulls. He also ordered all 29 dogs to be put to sleep.

Breeding of Pittbull type dogs has been prohibited since 1993, the only exception to this is the Staffordshire Bull terrier. Animals who have been born before 1993 may be kept, but must be on line and wearing a muzzle when walking outside. In and around Rotterdam the Inspectors have often come across pittbulls. Already this year 40 dogs have been impounded. Last year over 100 pittbulls have been confiscated.

Our Afghan Hound friend, Nicola Maddison, who returned to the UK some couple of years ago, continues to make progress after her illness, although we haven't received any up-to-date news recently, but we hope all is improving.

We believe plans are well under way for the Bulawayo Shows next year, so hope they come to fruition and we will keep you posted on progress.  Bulawayo is always a most enjoyable weekend - there were 6 Ch. Shows this year - and we hope everything comes to pass for them early next year, in 2006.

The German Shepherd Dog Council of Zimbabwe:

The following requirements have been ratified by the Executive Committee, and are effective immediately:

1) Revised fees:

a) GSD puppy registration levy increased to ZWD2,000 per puppy

b) GSD Breed Survey levy increased to ZWD5,000 per dog

c) Endurance Test levy increased to ZWD5,000

2) GSD breeding requirements - Gradings

The grading necessary for breeding has been amended to a G grading obtained from the age of 12 months (previously 18 months). There is however no change to the age at which a GSD dog/bitch may be bred from.

Sheila Ashton is leaving for the UK for a well-earned 3-week holiday. After that she will pack up and leave for SA to go and live in Mooiriver and hopes to be able to do some teaching as a couch to keep her busy. Another of our dear doggy friends who will leave the country.

We are saying farewell in August to our Dachshund and Dobe friend, Virginia Wigham, who is also returning to the UK to live.  The Dachshund Club would appear to be no more without her and her hounds.  The Hound Group is sadly depleted these days.  Also departed are Pat Webb to New Zealand and Maureen Martin to South Africa.

Brgds  to all and keep smiling - u cud bee pushin yer kar termorra insted ov drivin hit !!!!!

Dates and Shows

The SPCA Show in May had some lovely programs and here some more pictures of that event, which lots of people attended with their pets. ZWD.19 000 000 was made to prove that fact.

The Panda Shepherd

The Panda Shepherd is indeed a newly formed ‘breed within a breed’. The Geneticists working with this breed have concluded that this new mutation is similar to the process that caused the White Tiger, the White Lion, the White Black Bear, and several others also very similar to the Piebald deer…. Natural mutations that have occurred over the years.

We do stress that the pattern of the Pandas coat does indeed remain a perplexing mystery to the most educated. DNA Proof has shown and proven that the original female Panda Shepherds named ‘Frankie’ was indeed sired by handsome red and black male imported from Germany, and her dam is a pure black coated female who’s lines are German/Hungarian. Surprisingly Frankies eyes are a gorgeous blue [possibly a double mutation] and as you may imagine, a great surprise coming from two dark brown-eyed parents. At this time [September 2004] all of Frankies puppies thus far have the typical brown eyes of their fully colored German Shepherd Dog cousins. The temperament and personalities of these dogs have been outstanding, and the health and structure of mother and all pups has been extremely sound. Watch for the ‘Panda’ Shepherd at an up coming UKC show [United Kennel Club] near you in the future…. these beauties are not easily forgotten with their stunning combination of Flash and Grace and Extreme Elegance.

The above was pointed out to me by one of my readers and been copied from www.lewcinkaskennels.com the website of Marion & John Lopizzo

Below some pictures of these fascinating panda coloured animals

Allison Von Phenom is out of our beautiful Franka and handsome Gorbi, both of whom can be seen on this site. Allison is always inquisitive and sweet but has the tenacity to put her bigger brother in his place at any moment.  She is a happy girl with lovely uniform markings, and has very good Penn-Hip scores. Her greatest accomplishment so far is the birth of the third generation of Pandas.

Letter to My Dog

Copyright 2003 W. Bruce Cameron - Please do not remove the copyright from this essay Since you seem to have so much trouble processing the English language no matter how loudly it is spoken to you, I thought perhaps I could communicate with you more effectively if I wrote down my thoughts. First, please allow me to assure you that you are not starving. In fact, if the newspapers bothered to publish a canine version of those irritating "body-mass indices" that my daughter so delights in reading aloud to me, I'm sure we would discover that you've got far more waddle in your walk than is strictly necessary. The way you visually track every bite of food I take, with a trembling expression of frantic pleading, is most annoying. Speaking of walks: We've been taking the same route around the same block for nine years. For you to sob, whine, and tremble every time I get out your leash is just crazy. And would you please stop rolling in road kill? Dead animals smell like. Well, like dead fish. There is a reason I give you a bath every single time you roll in something-it is NOT a coincidence Here's a news flash: Our next-door neighbours LIVE THERE. They have a right to be in their own yard! Stop barking at them through our windows! Your crazed fury is especially irritating in view of the fact that when you actually encounter them in person you flop on your back and let them rub your tummy. As a guard dog, you're about as intimidating as a gerbil. The following are not digestible: Balloons. Crayons. Socks. I can show you evidence out in the yard. Stop eating them; they are not food! I do not mind rolling down the window for you when we are in the car. I don't even mind that the air rushing up your nostrils makes you sneeze. What I do mind is that you always pull your head into the car to share your sneeze with the back of my neck. Keep your head in or out, that's all I ask. Our front door is three inches of solid wood; you cannot tunnel through it. Stop clawing! Don't we always let you out when you need to go? The bushes in the back yard cost a lot of money, but there is nothing of value hidden under them. Stop digging for buried treasure! The stuff in the trash can is not your food. Oh, and your expression of shocked innocence when we accuse you of dining at the garbage buffet is not nearly as persuasive as the forensic evidence left strewn around the kitchen. Stop blaming the cat; she doesn't eat anything that costs less than a dollar an ounce. Oh, and speaking of the cat, just because she gets to sleep on the bed doesn't mean that you do too. Did you think we wouldn't notice all the dog fur on our bedspread when we got home? And another thing: I do not wake up at the same time every day! On days we don't work, we're allowed to sleep past our normal waking time. Stop licking my face because your internal clock says it is time for breakfast. Don't dogs DO weekends? Look, you do make me crazy sometimes. But I suppose I have to admit that even though you're lazy (you probably won't even bother to read this letter!) and don't seem very bright, you do have your positive attributes. You're the only one in the family who will get up and pace with me in front of the window when it's past curfew and my teenage daughter is parked in the driveway with her date. You're the only one who likes my cooking, and you share my opinion that we don't need a cat. After nine years of living with you, I suppose life just wouldn't be the same without you. Wanna go for a walk?
