Zimbabwe Kennel Club:

The Zimbabwe Kennel Club office will now only be open on a Friday each week, 14.00-16.00 CAT.

News:

Four Rottweilers killed a French woman.
In a village in the north of France four dogs have attacked and killed their 29-year-old owner. The woman and her four Rottweilers were living in Villes-sur-There, northeast of Paris. The neighbour, who warned the police, found the very badly mauled body. Police shot all four dogs instantly when they arrived.

Ann Hancock and her dogs:
All her corgi’s have now passed on and she is still with 7 GSD’s: 13 year old Lascala Liane [called Senna] is from Santor, 6 year old Lascala Rochelle [called Shelley] is from Avante, 5 year old Pethilton Heaven from Kimon and Ornella, 4,5 year old Zilletal Morg, he is from Zilla and Kimon, 3 year old Salonica Shanu is from Shelly and Edo, 2 year old Salonica Pagan is from Shelly and Tex and finally the youngest, just a year old and busy moulting to come in his own beautiful self Pethilton Dante is from Ornella and Edo.

So quite a little pack she still has and a shame that no specialist shows will be held for the time being.

Some more news from Roger Sutton:
We are living in a place called Tunworth, which is just outside Basingstoke Hampshire. We have a two bedroom brick Cottage that we are renting. We live out in the country one of our near neighbors are Rita (Min Pins & Dachshunds) & Paul Warwick 200metres down the road in fact they are the next cottage. We see Sheila Stead quite regularly she and Her sister June Gohery (Pomeranians Gweru), They live in Farnborough about 12 miles away Sheila came to Belfast with us & she may get a judging appointment there next year. We do not have any dogs now but we do get two badgers visit every night for their dinner I do have photos if anybody would like to see. We have visited Crufts a couple of times since we came here. We keep in touch with Cheryl Cargill. I am working in the same type of work I was doing in Zimbabwe, Ann is lady of leisure (that is not true as she does all the house work) as she is of retirement age.

Hi

I have just come across your pages and have read all of the news from beginning to end. Let me introduce myself. I was born in Zimbabwe in 1963 and was part of the dog scene from the age of 4 when my parents were founding members of the then Gwelo Kennel Club.(Patrick and Evelyn Cogill.) Both were avid GSD fans and my father went on to make up his white GSD obedience and working trials champion. My mother's dog was always poorly and eventually after 6 long years was put to sleep. We spent many a night in the cold and the rain building the Kennel Club, which I believe, has now fallen to ruin. So many good memories of growing up free and healthy, with not a care in the world.  My mother passed way in 1995 and my Father now lives in New Zealand. I live in Ireland with my wife and two wonderful girls who have both taken to showing so here is hoping that another generation will continue.

Must say that your site has brought about many many memories, which in some cases are just too hard to remember. I eventually went into Afghan Hounds and to this day am actively involved in them. I remember well the halcyon days when over 40 Afghans were on show with the likes of Rita Hall, Ann Bull, Dorris Kleinbeck and Harry Binder all showing their wonderful hounds. My best friends were the Blackburn's of standard Dixie fame so we would all pile into our cars armed to the back teeth to attend the shows as in those days we were still in a state of civil war! We also had fuel rationing with no petrol being available on a Sunday, so we would save our coupons send them ahead and get our friends in the various towns to get the fuel so that we would be back home on a Sunday!  I remember Lee Tarr show her bassets Sam Wallace with his Ridgebacks John Taylor with his saluki's and so many more.

I am delighted to see that the show scene is still going and wish you all the very best of luck in 2007. I will be making this site a favorite from now on!!

Fondest regards
Robert Cogill

Answer to the above original mail from Robert:

Thank you for the mail. It is interesting to hear of the working dogs as well. I train all of my Afghans and have a pup that I know will do very well with the obedience and dog jumping. The dog jumping is great fun and the dogs just love it. It is quite funny to see an Afghan in full coat competing with the working dogs. Unfortunately not all are suitable - I tend to think it is the clever ones who will not do it, as they would far rather be off doing their own thing!!

I remembered who my Mother got her first GSD from - Peggy Wilson from Harare. Do you know what happened to her?

Note from the Editor:

The above is a wonderful reaction to all the hard work which has been put into this website over the years and my great thanks go out to my Webmaster Peter Coen van Erp.

Farewell to another long-time and well-known Dog person. This time it’s Ted Bates going to New Zeeland to live with his daughter, son in law and the two grandchildren. Ted left on 17 December and we whish him all well and hope to get some news from time to time. A special tea was provided on his last day at the Kennel Club.
