Spent one Sunday at Pinefarm Conservancy, where we looked at birds and had a most wonderful walk allover the farm in the morning. We took our own lunch with us and in the afternoon another shorter walk to see more. The most wonderful views and I met up with a registered Ridgeback who is due to whelp on 16 May. In the photo she is gazing out to the view on the left and I bet quite a few of you people will remember the country side and have some wonderful thoughts of how you can still enjoy the views and animals to be seen. Any interested people in the pups can contact me and I will refer the address for finding out if she has had her pups.

News:

Marion & Colin Neilson are leaving for the UK. Has anyone had any news where they have gone to and if they have settled in what part of the UK?

"It is a sad tale of departures, of one kind or another, from Zimbabwe this month. We said farewell to Edna Hardy and her son who are returning to Scotland after many, many years in Zimbabwe.  Edna, and her late husband, were very active in the Hound Group in the 70's and 80's and enjoyed much success in the ring; we wish Edna and her son well on their return to Scotland.

We said farewell, also, to Ian and Sue Grierson, and the children, who are settling in the UK.

Norah Griffin also feels it is time for her to return to Ireland where many of her family still live and we believe she is planning her departure for July. Norah has been one of our senior All Breeds Judges for many years and one of her final assignments will be judging during the MLKA and Hatfield Kennel Club's Ch. Show weekend over 30 June and 01 July.

Olga Moerman with the Pekes is also planning her departure to the UK for July and, we understand, will also be visiting Canada on her journey.

On a more cheerful note, the next Pedigree sponsored Fun Show for SPCA funds, will be held on Sunday, 27th May, at Mukuvisi Woodland and Nature Reserve and due to the unfortunate postponement of the April Bulawayo Ch. Show Weekend, the Schedules are now out for the first of our All Breeds Ch. Shows this year on 30 June and 01 July, Mashonaland Ladies Kennel Association and Hatfield Kennel Club, along with the Gundog Ch. Show and the Toy Dog Association Ch. Show on the same weekend.  Before then, however, we shall have another Fun Show, when entries for the above Ch. Shows close, and an Open Breed Show on 24 June with Mike Rust judging.  So there is still plenty to do on the Show scene in Zimbabwe!"

Pittbul bit 3 children in the arm:

In the Hague a wandering Pitbull bit three children and were treated locally. They were walking with their class, when the dog attacked. A policeman in the vicinity got hold of the dog, by its collar. The dog has been impounded and if it is a Pitbull, it will be put to sleep. The 19 year old owner has had a fine.
Further news is: The dog has been put to sleep. Pitbulls are prohibited in the Netherlands.

Condolences to Margaret Wallace:

We said a sad farewell to Sammy Wallace, Chairman of the Ridgeback Club in Zimbabwe, who died earlier in April after many years of ill health; our sympathies are extended to his widow, Margaret.

Condolences to Ann Hancock who lost her Mork on 24 April and she wrote to me:

“Just a short note to let you know that my beautiful Mork had a massive heart attack this morning and died in my arms at 7am, he was a great companion and a royal pain in the butt but will be so very much missed.” Thank you to all of you who kept up with his illness and all the support over his last five weeks it has been greatly appreciated. Ann

Animal Communication

A person from Australia conducted this seminar, she led us into meditating [never done that before] and she then started telling us how she and we too could start reading [talking] with animals and getting an answer back from them. Very interesting. We had two tea breaks and one lunch hour. In the afternoon we had to give a photo of our own animal to the person sitting next to you and then had to concentrate on the given picture of the animal, write down what we got back from its picture. I was not good at it at all, but looked more at the expression of the animal, did not think I was getting 'waves' from the picture. Some people were very good at it. All in all a most interesting and enlightening day. There were 28 of us and were advised to keep at it and concentrate on your own animals as that was a good beginning.
